Review Rant: Frozen

The Standard Review

Disney's newest movie, Frozen, has been out for some time now and as I just watched it recently I've decided to do a review on it.

When I first saw the trailer, the teaser trailer that is, of the movie I wasn't interested. I just thought the movie was some kind of a dumb kids movie and I didn't really care for it. Some time later though I watched the "second" trailer with no hopes at all for this particular movie, but I'm so glad I did. Because I had no idea what kind of adventure awaited me. That was Disney's big mistake by my opinion. Making the "first" trailer, the trailer that was shown in movie theaters all around the world be so bad that maybe I wasn't the only one who thought it was just some dumb kids movie. Some people might not even have bothered to see the "second" trailer because of the "first" one. But I'm really glad that I did because an adventure like Frozen is something you don't say no to.

Furthermore, Disney has done it again. Bringing back the old Disney movie feeling and the songs that go with it that we all love and wish to have more of. The first movie, by my opinion, they brought it back in was "Tangled", showing us that they still have it in them to make such wonderful films. And if you liked "Tangled" I have great news for you, "Frozen" surpasses it. I liked "Tangled", and when I say liked I mean loved, but "Frozen" is just so brilliant and wonderful and inspiring that it is even better. It brings the new animated movies, the once made after the great Disney movie era, to a whole new level. It makes you not care that it isn't animated in the same way the old ones were and the fact that they actually spent time investigating how snow falls and moves and such is just fascinating on its own and it just shows how much work was put into the movie. It wasn't just a easy solution to make money.

The things I love the most about the movie is the way you can relate to it, although it's maybe not an environment we can relate to, it's the characters we can. And I just love the little things, the funny little things that make you laugh and just want to watch the movie over and over again. The characters are also magnificently made, making their characteristics so real and different and how the music changes with every character.

Now if you haven't seen the movie yet, please go watch it now and then come back and continue reading this review because there will be spoilers. If you don't want to watch the movie, please check out this trailer of the movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLzfXQSPBOg  and if that doesn't convince you check out this song from the movie, my personal favorite, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moSFlvxnbgk

Let's swim deeper into the Frozen lake:

Anyways now I'll be going a little deeper into the content of the movie, starting with the characters. The character I would like to start with is Elsa.

Elsa

Elsa is this wonderful, loving person and I always feel so bad for her. She has this gift but because of the dangerous of it she keeps hidden away. The saddest thing is though that she and Anna were best friends but because of the incident where Elsa struck Anna with her powers, she doesn't even want to see Anna anymore because of the fear of hurting her again. This leads to them drifting apart and at the ball they act like total strangers. They don't really know each other anymore.

The other thing that always makes me so sad is the fact that she spends all of her time cooped up in her room like it's her prison, because no one will understand her powers and she would be called evil. Of course her parents are just trying to protect her and keep it therefore a secret, closing all entrances to the castle and shutting everyone out.

The worst thing is that she has been spending all these years trying to control her powers and feeling so scared and nervous of someone finding
out and calling her a monster. And when she suddenly loses control of it everyone turns against her.
That really makes me think "what if the Snow Queen was just misunderstood?", like the woman in Hansel and Gretel. She has been working on making her dream house for many years and then some kids come along and start eating it. Poor woman, though not justifying her actions.

Although, I quite like the scene that follows, when she goes up to the mountains and can finally be free and be herself. She can do all these magnificent things with her powers and it's just my all time favorite part of the movie. She doesn't care what others think about her anymore and I think that many people can relate to that, wanting to be able to be free and be who they are without other people's judgement. At least I do.

And I just love that song that she sings "Let it go". It is my all time favorite Disney song now and the scene also. I just keep watching it over and over again and I seem to not be able to get enough of it. It's just the way the music fits perfectly with everything she does and it's just such a good scene. I can't really describe it. I just love the time she first says: "The cold never bothered me anyway" and lets her cape fly of the mountain and when she makes the stairs and steps on the first steps and it turns into beautiful ice. It's just so brilliant. She goes from being this timid, shy girl to an awesome, magnificent and fabulous woman. When she starts building the castle, even if there isn't any singing involved I just love the way the music is perfectly synced with what she is creating. I've got to admit though that the last 30 seconds of the song is my favorite part of the whole movie. When she lets her hair down and makes a perfect snowy dress and then walks out onto her balcony. She just looks so fabulous and strong and confident. I just love that scene. And then when she says for the second time "the cold never bothered me anyway", that is the most brilliant end of a song scene I have ever seen. I'm sorry that this is such a long description of one scene but I just literally love it so much that I can't bear it. If you have no idea what scene I was talking about check it out here. I'm just playing it non-stop.

Anyways, enough about Elsa, I've talked way to much about her, probably because she's my favorite character. But lets turn to another character such as Anna.

Anna:

What I love about Anna is that she's the clumsy younger sister. She's a dreamer and a hopeless romantic. Wishing to find "the one" the first time they open up the gates to new people and falling in love with the first guy who shows her affection thinking he's the one. The funniest part of that in my opinion is that everyone is like "but you've only just met, you can't get married" and that is actually what has never made any sense in Disney movies, and other movies too, that two people that have only known each other for a brief second can fall in love and get married right away. I like that the writers decided to shed light on that bit. Because in real life it doesn't happen like that.

Furthermore, what I also love about Anna is her little moments in her songs that always make me laugh. The sentences "Don't know if I'm elated or gassy, but I'm somewhere in the zone" and "I suddenly see him standing there, a beautiful stranger, tall and fair. I wanna stuff some chocolate in my face" in the song "For the First Time in Forever" always make me laugh. And the scene in the same song where she is using the drapes as a dress being all sophisticated, it cracks me up every time. My favorite sentences in a song sung by her is a sentence from the song "Love is an Open Door" where they sing:
Hans: "I mean it's crazy"
Anna: "What?!"
Hans: "We finish each other's-"
Anna: " Sandwiches"
It's just the funniest thing anyone could ever finish that sentence with and then he is like: "That's what I was gonna say!" well we all know he wasn't going to say that but it's just really funny, isn't it? And the other thing is the end of the song when he asks if he can say something crazy and proposes to her and she says can I say something crazier? Yes! It's just so funny, because of course it's crazy. They just met a few hours earlier.

The next person I would like to talk about is the last person and that is Olaf.

Olaf:

Olaf the lovely lovely snowman is such a lovely person. Too much lovely maybe? Nah, not for him. He's such a good idea for a sidekick, a snowman who can't wait for summer to come. That's just so funny. But he's just that, a good SIDE-kick, because let's just accept it. He wouldn't do as a main character. Maybe for small kids, but not for anything else. Because, although in small portions he is fun, you get pretty quickly bored of a snowman who likes the idea of summer.

Although, I do like it that in the end when the summer is coming and he's melting that Elsa makes him his very own cloud with snow coming from it. And of course he has his moments, which are so funny. I especially like his song "In Summer" where he sings about how great it will be when summer comes. My favorite lines are when he's skipping along and sings "Winter's a good time to stay in and cuddle, but put me in summer and I'll be a-" he stops by a puddle and looks sad at it like he's just realized what he will be, but then he blurts out the funniest words "happy snowman!" and jumps happily over the puddle. It's just so funny, every time I hear it in the song I laugh. Also when he sings, which makes no sense however, "The hot and the cold are both so intense, put'em together-it just makes sense!" is so funny. But the thing I love maybe the most about the song is in the end when Kristoff says: " I'm gonna' tell him" and Anna looks angry at him and says: "Don't you dare" that is just the cherry on top of the ice cream.

I think that I won't make this review any longer as it has been long enough. Way to long even. I absolutely love this film and I could talk loads more about it, but I think this is quite enough. If you have made it this far thank you so much for reading this, it means a lot.

And please leave a comment about what you thought of the film, do you agree or disagree with this review? Write it down below :)

Review Rant: Midnight Memories

So the boys in One Direction gave out a new album recently, Midnight Memories, and as I've heard a lot of good things about the album I thought I'd give it a listen.

The first time I listened to it I've got to admit that I was rather disappointed with it. Although that I had liked the new ring to the single Story of My Life, I thought the rest of the songs were rather dull and not very memorable. And Best Song Ever has had it's time, I didn't even feel like listening to it.

Although, because I had heard that you had to listen to the album a couple of times to like it, I decided to give it another chance and I'm really glad that I did because now I can't stop pressing the replay button. I'm even listening to it as I write this.

I've got to say though that I'm not quite fan-girling over it as some people, mainly girls, are. But I do quite enjoy it. I really like how their music is growing with them and changing and maturing. Going a bit from the pop and more into a bit rockish, but still not, and bringing maybe a bit of an indie ring to it? I'm not really sure how to describe it, but it's clearly different from their other music and that's what I really like about it, not that their music was bad before. I just like the kind of music their making now more.

My favorite thing about the album, as weird as it sounds, isn't actually their songs, but the fact that the formation of the songs are different from before. E.g. the first two albums, Up All Night and Take Me Home, were mainly sung by Liam, Harry and Zayn, but now Niall and Louis are coming strong into this album. Which I think is a very good thing and the reason is, well, they looked quite bored at their newest concert as they really didn't have many lines in each song. Louis wasn't even allowed to finish his only solo line in the single Best Song Ever, the "I know, you know, you know, I'll remember you" bit as Zayn was made swoop in and finish it.

I also like the fact that Liam isn't the one starting every song, even if he does a great job at it, I like hearing Niall start "You and I" and Louis start "Right Now". And I like hearing Niall and Louis sing more than one part of the song when Zayn, Harry and Liam always sing at least two parts in each song. I've noticed though that it's like Niall has gotten out of the corner he was put in and gets to sing a lot more than usually but Louis, unfortunately, isn't as lucky. I noticed this factor first in the Best Song Ever, but I had long before, as you have probably also picked up on, noticed about the other three's main roles in the band.

I don't think I have a favorite song on the album as I always find something I don't like in each song, but I guess if I had to choose it would be Happily, that is apart from Story of My Life. The only thing I don't like in it is the bit "we're on fire". I just don't get it, but I love the hyped up part after that.

Lastly I would just really like to say a few words about each song on the album.

Best Song Ever: Starts very well, with good energy, and the "ow" from Harry is a very fun part. It is though a very milked idea of a song. I just thought of Tenacious D with their song Tribute when I first heard of this one.

Story of My Life; Very different from their previous songs, has a nice indie ring to it, which I really like. And of course with this song, their trying, as every singer does at least once in their career, to show that they had a life before their careers, which is nice for the fans.

Diana: Singing a song about a girl, basic. But, still making it very fun and catchy, you could really dance to this.

Midnight Memories; Pretty much about their lives and how they now know what they want to do and not caring what other people think. And of course they sing about a girl.

You and I: A very cute and relaxing song. Has a kind of like a Romeo and Juliet feel to it. Maybe a bit cheesy. I like the most about the song though that Niall starts it for once.

Don't Forget Where You Belong; Pretty basic song based on the place they're now in as pop stars. They don't want to forget where they come from and that they are normal. Good song though.

Strong: I think this is actually a very sweet song, but still pretty basic song about a girl.

Happily: Maybe my most favorite, but I just don't get the "we're on fire" bit, please explain it to me in the comments. But as I said earlier the part after is very fun and I really like it.

Right Now: Not very special to me. Just about the touring and probably them missing their girlfriends or just another love song.

Little Black Dress: Good rhythm, but not very memorable is it?

Through The Dark; I like this song. The music and text is pretty good. So it's good. I really like the sound of the guitar.

Something Great: I like this song, except for the part were Zayn sings like a emo, like he's about to cry.

Little White Lies: I like this song, it's catchy and fun.

Better Than Words: This song is really good. Scratch everything I said before, this is my favorite song on the album. Just so much fun and the "tsss" Niall does, so funny. A bit too much "oooww" though, like someone just grabbed their crotch to make them sing higher.

Why Don't We Go There: This is a pretty good song. Not anything negative I can point out.

Does He Know: I like this song, but doesn't it quite go against Little Things? And are they promoting cheating? At least it sounds like it's about cheating. Otherwise I like it.

Alive: I think this song is so funny, I can't help but laugh when I hear the end of their sentences, like "eehh" squall. And the other parts of the song do remind me of some other song, I'm not sure what song though. Should have been the last song on the album though. A perfect ending song for an album.

Half a Heart: Is probably the sweetest song I've ever heard and this song just screams LOVE! This makes me want to be in love. A very good job song writers.

Although this review can be seen as being negative and disliking 1D by some directioners, it is not inteded to be. This is just some constructive criticism. I am actually myself a directioner, so please no hate.

I give the album on a scale from 1-10:  7.5

Please comment below what you thought of the album, did you like it? Dislike it? And why?

If you agree with me on anything or disagree please let me also know in the comments below.

Let's Talk: Fashion

So I am walking down the street and everywhere I look people are dressed the same. I go on the bus and everybody dresses the same and then I look in the papers and magazines and EVERYBODY DRESSES THE SAME!

So I was reading this article or maybe more of an interview and it was about people who are just starting college and their clothing style. It was a boy and a girl who were interviewed and they both talked a lot about how they have their own style and how they don’t mind what other people think about them and their style, they dress as they please. So I look at the pictures of them, which the interview had been decorated with, and it shows a few examples of their style. For a while I just look at the pictures and sort of drain it all in. I look at them and then think about the people on the streets, the people on the bus and lastly the people in the magazines. Their style is no different from the rest of the people. Their style isn't unique in the slightest; it’s just the fashion that’s in right now.

This brings me to my subject. Why does everyone, whether they like the fashion or not, try to stuff themselves into the latest fashion just because it is the latest fashion? I know that deep down everyone wants to fit in and have a place where they belong, I do too. But why not just wear the clothes you like and look good on you, rather than wearing clothes that you might not even like just because it’s the latest fashion.

I've even heard people say: “I hate these clothes, but because they’re the latest fashion I’ll have to wear them and buy them though they’re really expensive.” Okay I might have added the last part about how expensive they are and how you could be using your money for something you actually want and will enjoy, but you get what I’m saying right?

Even clothes that I hated when I was a bit younger and me and my friends were saying that we would never wear anything like that and fashion that people said: “this will never come back, it’s so horrid” has come back, and not only that but my childhood friends all wear it because it’s in right now. Also fashion that was made fun of is now mainstream. I just don’t get why because some fashion guru told them to wear something they wear it? It just doesn't make sense.

Of course I realise that taste changes and my taste has happily changed a lot too. But I do not think that everybody's taste changes in the same way, that is that they just suddenly all think the same style is their style. It just really saddens me that everyone feels like they have to dress the same to not be ridiculed by their clothing choices. I have witnessed people talking badly behind other people's backs and not wanting to communicate with them just because of their clothing choices. This I think is wrong.

I think people should be more free to make up their own mind what they would like to wear and having the possibility to buy something they think is cute or cool without having to worry about what others will think or if it's in fashion or not. If you can buy it in a store and you think it's brilliant, it's fashion. Maybe it's not mainstream or nobody else is wearing it, but who cares? The only thing that matters is that you like it.

New fashion is born when you pick something different than the masses.
